Manchester United caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick says he was "disappointed" by the referees' performance in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, are four points adrift of the Gunners, dropping to fourth place with an extra game under their belt, with the exception of the Champions League race.

Speaking to the club's official website after the game, Rangnick was eager to point out how United paid for 'clear' mistakes in Saturday's Champions League clash.

 

"At the beginning of the first half there was another handball problem involving Jadon Sancho. Cristiano's second goal was not an offside ball. It can be seen from the overall point of view.

"Their third goal was an offside ball. I told David De Gea after the game that he could not see the ball. Nketiah was between himself and Xhaka. They checked but could not score for any reason.

"What is the third person? Anthony Elanga shakes hands with another player [Tavares]. It's questionable for me, but the other three are clear: So we should have a VAR and expect the VAR and the referees. At least we should check the situation and make the right decision."

Bruno Fernandez missed a penalty in the second half and showed his mettle in the second.

"Yes," Rangnic said of the mistake. If you get a 2-1 penalty, if you get a chance after a 2-1 defeat, it will help us a lot. "And it could have changed the whole game but failed to hit the post. Then it hit the post twice and in the end we were very unlucky."
