Kelvin Joseph, a Dallas Cowboys backer, was shot dead last month by a passenger who was not a gunman, but his lawyer, Barry Sorrel, said.
"Kelvin Joseph did not shoot Cameron Ray," Sorrels said in a statement. "Mr Ray's death was tragic and Kelvin expressed his deepest condolences for the loss of his family. On the night of March 17, Kelvin did not find himself in a state of unarmed violence."
Cameron Ray, 20, was killed in a March 18 shooting. A Dallas police spokesman declined to confirm Joseph's involvement in the case, but detectives from The Dallas Morning News interviewed the 22-year-old on Friday.
According to a video released by the Dallas Police Department, an incident took place between two groups of friends, including Joseph and Ray. Later, Ray and his friends were walking to their car when an SUV passed by and gunfire erupted. At 2:01 a.m., police responded to a shooting on the Greenville Avenue 3600 block and found Ray. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
Earlier this week, police on KDFW-TV called on the public to help identify men involved in the conflict. A man wears a necklace with the word "YKDV" on it. Joseph is known as the YKDV Bossman Fat as a rapper. YKDV stands for You Know Da Vibe.
According to many sources, The Cowboys encouraged Joseph to meet with the police about what he knew about the incident. on Friday, The Cowboys have issued a statement on the situation.
"The Dallas Cowboys noticed the tragedy in Dallas on March 18th. First of all, our hearts go to Mr. Ray's family and loved ones. The organization is aware that this may be related to Kelvin Joseph's case.
A league spokesman said the matter was being reviewed in accordance with the league's privacy policy.
The Cowboys chose Joseph in the second round of the 2021 draft. He played 10 games and started 2 games.
