Chelsea center-back Antonio Rudiger confirmed in the 90th minute that he had signed a pre-contract with Real Madrid before completing a free transfer to the Spanish capital this summer.
The 29-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year deal with the La Liga champions, according to sources close to the Germany international.
Real are focusing on the Champions League final and Chelsea are eager to focus on the top four in the Premier League, with the move expected to be confirmed by the end of the season.
Rudiger's contract with Chelsea expires at the end of June and the club have long since resigned following the loss of one of their key defenders this summer. Negotiations broke down late last year, and the club's top-down relationship with its representatives deteriorated to the point where it was not even involved in the talks.
Rudi Garcia once wanted to see the result of his imminent takeover of Chelsea, but director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck were ruled out of the running for office.
90min understands that he underwent medical treatment in London about two weeks ago and concluded discussions on personal terms, including lucrative bonuses and agent fees.
Rudiger has agreed a four-year deal worth £ 250,000-a-week, with bonuses currently paid by Karim Benzema and Luka Modric at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real hope Rudiger will not be the only free agent to arrive this summer, and Los Blancos is still trying to persuade Kelian Ambedkar to leave PSG.
